Xarelto Causes Complications With Severe Bleeding
Xarelto Lawyers Are Filing Lawsuits
The anticoagulant Xarelto has been showing adverse incident reports of severe bleeding complications.
Bayer and Johnson & Johnson’s Jannsen Pharmaceuticals manufacturer Xarelto and have promoted it as a superior alternative to warfarin (Coumadin), which has been the most widely used anticoagulant for the past decade.
Many users have had severe Xarelto bleeding complications and where doctors were unable to control the bleeding. There is no antidote for Xarelto approved together with the medication to stop the bleeding. 2,081 serious adverse events have been reported associated with Xarelto in 2012, and at least 151 deaths.
ISMP Report Alerts To Complications From Xarelto
In May 2014, another ISMP report alerted that complications with Xarelto were “steadily increasing” as more patients used the medication, finding that the 680 adverse events were reported to the FDA in connection with the medication during the first quarter of 2013. This is more then the number of complications associated with Pradaxa, which is a competing anticoagulant in the same new class of medications. Pradaxa is now facing hundreds of lawsuits in a consolidated multi district litigation lawsuit.
Last year, the number of patients using Xarelto began to exceed the number using Pradaxa and now we see adverse event reports involving Xarelto surpass those for Pradaxa.
There could be several thousand Xarelto deaths occurring each year from extensive bleeding from Xarelto.
Xarelto Lawsuits On The Rise
Johnson & Johnson and Bayer are now facing Xarelto lawsuits claiming that the drug makers failed to adequately warn about the bleeding risks and lack of an effective reversal agent for Xarelto.
Pradaxa Settlement For Extensive Bleeding Victims
Boehringer Ingelheim recently agreed to pay $650 million to settle more than 4,000 Pradaxa lawsuits for victims and their families. We expect a larger number of cases may be filed on behalf of individuals who experienced uncontrolled bleeding problems following use of Xarelto.
